A court in Iran has decided to sentence to death one of the participants in the riots in Tehran. He was found guilty of setting fire to an administrative building, as well as conspiring to commit a crime against national security. As the Iranian agency Mizan Online clarifies, this is still a preliminary death sentence.
In addition, the defendant was declared an “enemy of God.” He has the right to appeal this verdict. On the same day, five more Protestants received prison terms ranging from five to ten years.
Recall that the protests in the capital of Iran began after the death of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini, who was detained by the vice police for wearing the hijab incorrectly.
In total, about 14 thousand people were detained during the riots.
