Iran may become a member of the Interstate Aviation Committee

According to information received from the Chairman of the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) Oleg Storchevoy, Iran may join this organization. The proposal to join was submitted for consideration during negotiations with the Iranian aviation authorities.
The IAC Chairman said that Iranian colleagues have shown interest in joining the agreement. The issue of Iran’s accession will be discussed by the Council of Plenipotentiaries of the IAC member states, after which the corresponding regulatory framework will be developed.
He also noted that the agreement is open for accession by other countries. Iran’s accession could help expand regional cooperation in civil aviation and ensure aviation safety.
According to the Izvestia newspaper, the use of common approaches and regulatory frameworks in the field of airworthiness, certification of aviation equipment, as well as the exchange of experience in the investigation of aviation accidents can bring a synergistic effect and contribute to a more efficient use of the resources of Iran and other IAC member countries for development aviation industry, infrastructure and aircraft manufacturing.
The Interstate Aviation Committee was created in 1991 and is responsible for investigating aviation accidents and incidents with aircraft. The Committee took part, in particular, in the investigation of the crash of the Kogalymavia Airbus A321 in Egypt.
