Iran announces pardon for tens of thousands of prisoners

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei “pardoned tens of thousands of prisoners” in honor of the anniversary of the Islamic revolution. Among those pardoned are protesters, IRNA reports.
It is noted that the head of the judiciary Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejeya made a proposal for pardon. Khamenei agreed.
Those convicted of murder, destruction of state property and espionage did not fall under the amnesty.
Earlier in Iran, several protesters were sentenced to death. On December 8, the first execution took place.
