IOC strips Russian-led Kremlin-led International Boxing Association from recognition
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided to withdraw recognition from the International Boxing Association (IBA). Voting on this issue took place at the IOC session. 70 delegates made their choice: 69 people were in favor of deprivation of recognition, one was against.
The IOC session, in addition to this decision, spoke in favor of keeping boxing in the program of the Summer Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
In 2019, the IOC withdrew its recognition status from the IBA due to a financial and management crisis in the boxing organization. The international federation was required to carry out reforms and removed from the organization of the Olympic tournament in Tokyo (2021).
At the end of 2020, the IBA was headed by the Russian Umar Kremlev.
On June 5, the IBA sent a letter notifying the IOC of the fulfillment of all the requirements put forward for reinstatement. However, on June 7, the organization’s executive committee recommended that IBA be stripped of its recognition status.
