IOC will not invite Russian and Belarusian athletes to the 2024 Olympic Games

The Olympic committees of Russia and Belarus on July 26 will not receive an invitation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to participate in the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. This is stated in a statement to site IOC.
Invitations to National Olympic Committees (NOCs) will be sent out on July 26, one year before the start of the Olympic Games. 203 NOCs are invited to participate, but the committees of Russia, Belarus and Guatemala (the country’s NOC is temporarily suspended) will not be included in the list of participants. The IOC said a decision would be made on the two countries “in due course.”
The statement notes that representatives of the IOC are critical of the decision of the countries that opposed the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes. “It is unfortunate that these governments are not addressing the issue of the double standards that we encountered during the telephone consultations. We have not seen a single comment from them about their attitude towards the participation of athletes whose countries are involved in the remaining 70 wars, armed conflicts and crises, ”the message says.
Earlier on June 23, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a resolution calling on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in the 2024 Olympics, even in a neutral status. According to PACE, this decision should be left in force until “as long as Russia’s aggressive war continues.” Prior to this, on March 28, the IOC executive committee recommended that international federations allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who do not support hostilities in Ukraine, but in a neutral status, to participate.
In February, the sports ministries of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland appealed to the IOC to prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions, including the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
