Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach entered into “a political and administrative criminal conspiracy” to exclude strong athletes from international competitions. This is how she commented on Mr. Bach’s request to the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine to monitor the statements of Russian athletes.
“The relationship of IOC President Bach with the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine and its officials, the admission of a “request to monitor Russian athletes” should be the subject of a thorough investigation,” Maria Zakharova wrote in Telegram channel.
According to a Foreign Ministry representative, such agreements highlight the doping scandal from a new perspective. Maria Zakharova also called on international sports journalists to pay attention to the statements of Thomas Bach.
Earlier, pranksters Vovan and Lexus (Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov) called Mr. Bach on behalf of an African official. In conversation with them he saidthat the IOC has created a special commission to monitor public statements by Russian athletes and asked the Ukrainian Olympic Committee to provide additional information. Thomas Bach added that athletes who spoke out in support of Russia will not be able to take part in the Olympic Games.
The IOC allowed athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the 2024 Olympics in individual competitions in a neutral status. The international committee said that 36 Russian athletes would qualify for the Games.
