The International Olympic Committee (IOC) plans to hold the first-ever Olympic eSports Games in Japan in 2026. Japanese authorities will begin negotiations on hosting the eSports Olympics in 2024, agency sources said “Kyodo”.
On October 14, at the 141st session of the IOC, the head of the committee, Thomas Bach, said that he had ordered to study the prospects for creating an Olympic Games in e-sports. As part of an IOC pilot project, the Olympic eSports Week was held in Singapore in early 2023.
Esports athletes from Russia were banned from competing in world competitions under their flag on April 18, 2022. However, on August 28, the International Esports Federation took off previously established ban.
