IOC head Bach spoke about fears of aggressive statements from Russia

The President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, when asked about the participation of Russian athletes in the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, said that he was afraid of aggressive statements from Russia, and therefore decided not to give detailed comments.
“We have so many conflicting messages coming from Russia that I am not going to comment on all the opinions expressed. What we fear is that there will be increasingly aggressive statements from Russia and the Russian government,” Mr. Bach said at an event marking the IOC’s centenary in Chamonix, France (quoted by Inside the Games).
On March 13, 2024, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said that the country should not boycott the games in Paris, but a final decision on the participation of Russian athletes has not yet been made. “So let’s see what happens,” added Thomas Bach. “We set conditions, these conditions will not change: those who are ready to respect them are welcome in Paris, those who do not want to follow them are not welcome.”
December 8, 2023 IOC agreed allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris, but with restrictions. They are required to perform exclusively in a neutral status, they are prohibited from demonstrating any connection with their countries or participating in team competitions. The Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
