Interregional boxing tournament in memory of Roman Zhabarov started in Tula

On October 12, the inter-regional class B boxing competitions in memory of the outstanding Tula coach Roman Zhabarov started at the Metallurg sports complex.
The participants were welcomed by the Minister of Sports of the Tula Region Dmitry Yakovlev.
“Boxing is the sport of the strong and the brave. It not only hardens a person physically, but also shapes his character. Today the best of the best will compete for the title of the strongest. I wish you beautiful and fair fights,” said Dmitry Yakovlev.
About 300 boxers from the Central Federal District take part in the competition. The winner of the tournament will be determined on October 15th.

Roman Zhabarov is a native of Tula. He began training with the Honored Master of Sports Viktor Mikhailov immediately after the end of World War II. He was a finalist in the youth championship of the Moscow DSO “Dynamo” and the champion of the Leningrad Military District, the champion of Tula and the region, and since 1956 he began to train the Torpedo team of the Tula combine plant. Under the leadership of Roman Zhabarov, six Tula boxers became masters of sports.
