International festival “Bering Strait” will be held in Chukotka

The International Festival “Bering Strait” (16+) will be held in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. Its main events are scheduled from 4 to 11 August on the territory of Anadyr and the village of Lorino. The festival program includes business sessions, sports competitions and presentations, Chukotka news agency reports with reference to the press service of the district government.
The business program will open the festival. As part of the Arctic Travel Forum (16+), nine sessions and discussions will be held on the development of the Arctic territories through the prism of the tourism industry. The event will be attended by 150 experts and specialists in the field of tourism. They will discuss inter-regional cooperation, improvement of cities, transport accessibility, involvement of the local population in tourism.

The festival will also host the Beringian Games (16+). This is a meeting of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic in the format of a cultural forum and sports competitions. The participants will be 45 people, including representatives of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic from the eight Arctic regions of Russia. Participation of foreign guests is planned. Within the framework of the Beringia Games, competitions in national sports will be held: a high kick with one foot, jumping over sleds and others.
One of the highlights of the festival will be the Beringia 2023 regatta (). More than 100 people will take part in the team race on leather kayaks. Competitions among men’s and women’s teams, as well as single races are planned.
“As part of the event, a press tour will also be organized, which will focus on the Providensky city district. The participants will get acquainted with the key points of attraction of the territory – the Whale Alley, the Sinyavino Strait and the routes of the Beringia National Park,” the organizing committee said.
The main events of the Bering Strait festival will be held in the city of Anadyr and the village of Lorino, Chukotka region. The organizers are the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, the Government of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. The event will be held as part of the plan for the Russian Chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021-2023. The chairmanship event operator is the Roscongress Foundation.
