The list includes 17 athletes and 12 specialists, the FFR press service told TASS. They clarified that not a single medalist of the Olympic Games in Tokyo and not a single athlete representing the CSKA society was included in the final list.

In particular, the list did not include two-time Olympic champions Sofia Pozdnyakova, Sofya Velikaya, Yana Egoryan, Inna Deriglazova, Olympic champions Adelina Zagidullina, Larisa Korobeynikova, Marta Martyanova, Olga Nikitina, silver medalists of the Tokyo Olympics Anton Borodachev, Kirill Borodachev, Vladislav Mylnikov, Timur Safin.

In March 2022, athletes from Russia and Belarus banned participate in international competitions after the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee. March 10, 2023 FIE decided allow athletes to compete. A little later, the IOC gave similar recommendations (with a number of reservations and conditions) to all international sports associations. In May, the head of the Russian Olympic Committee Stanislav Pozdnyakov declaredthat Russian fencers will withdraw from international tournaments due to FIE restrictions.
