International Federation of Journalists Suspends UJR Membership

Membership of the Union of Journalists of Russia (UJR) in the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has been suspended, said the head of the UJR Vladimir Solovyov, TASS quoted him as saying.
The International Federation of Journalists was founded in 1926. It represents about 600 thousand journalists from 140 countries of the world. Protects the social and professional rights of journalists working in print and electronic media.
“IFJ Secretary General Anthony Bellanger sent me a letter in which he said that the membership of the UJR was suspended,” said Mr. Solovyov.
On the beginning of the process of suspension of membership and exclusion from its membership of the UWR in the IFJ announced January 31st. The decision was made after the journalists’ unions of Finland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland announced that they would leave the IFJ, among other things, because of the presence of Russian journalists in it.
The IFJ later issued a press release explaining that the reason for the suspension of became opening branches of the Russian Union in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
The Union of Journalists of Russia is one of the largest national unions within the IFJ. In 1995 he became a member of the international federation of the SZHR.
