International Boxing Association allowed Russians and Belarusians to compete

Athletes from Russia and Belarus are admitted to competitions held under the auspices of the International Boxing Association (IBA). They believe that politics should not have any impact on sports. Thus, all athletes should be given equal conditions, as stated in the association’s statement.
In addition, it became known that Russian and Belarusian boxers will compete in international tournaments under the flag and anthem of the country. Judges and technical officials from Russia and Belarus will also return to the competition.
Thus, the Board of Directors of the IBA voted to cancel the previous decision and allow boxers from Russia and Belarus to compete. The association also “calls for peace and remains a peacemaker in any conflicts.”
In September, the IBA temporarily suspended its membership in its ranks with the Boxing Federation of Ukraine (FBU). The reason is the intervention of the state in the work of the organization. At the same time, this decision will not affect Ukrainian athletes.
Interestingly, the current president of the IBA is the Russian Umar Kremlev. On May 14, at a congress in Istanbul, he was re-elected for a new term.
