Interior Minister Kolokoltsev announced a critical shortage of police personnel

Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev said that in July 5,000 employees left the internal affairs bodies. According to him, the shortage of personnel has become critical. At the meeting, the minister urged local departments to do everything “to minimize the risks.”
“The shortage of personnel is very large. I would say that it is already critical. Over the past month, 5,000 employees have left the internal affairs bodies. Difficult situation,” said Vladimir Kolokoltsev at a meeting in the department.
He added that even with a shortage of employees, everything must be done to “satisfy the demand of the population for the protection of the rights and freedoms provided for by law” (quoted from site MIA).
During the meeting, Vladimir Kolokoltsev introduced the heads of two territorial internal affairs bodies to the personnel. By presidential decree, police colonel Dmitry Knyazev was appointed head of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Magadan Region, and police colonel Sergei Sigunov was appointed head of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.
Speaking about the situation in Sevastopol and the Magadan region, the minister noted the trend towards a reduction in certain types of criminal attacks. According to him, one hundred percent detection of murders and grievous bodily harm was ensured. “I understand that in conditions of understaffing, a colossal burden falls on employees. But this is the case when they worked according to the principle “one must fight not by numbers, but by skill,” the minister concluded.
In December 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that establishes the maximum staffing of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2023 – 922 thousand people, in 2024 – 934 thousand, and in 2025 – 938 thousand. According to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, by 2026 required 52 thousand police officers in the new territories of Russia.
