In Gabon, ousted President Ali Bongo Ondimba received permission to travel abroad from transition chief Bris Oliga Nguema.
Earlier, the military in Gabon announced the dissolution of the institutions of power and the annulment of the results of the elections, which were won by Ali Bongo Ondimba, who has been president since 2009.
The decision to allow Ali Bongo Ondimba to leave the country was greeted with surprise and comes in the context of the military’s promise to restore transitional institutions and make them more democratic. General Brice Kloter Oligi Nguema, who was sworn in as Gabon’s transitional president, stressed that the country intends to honor all of its domestic and international obligations during this transitional period.
