Interfax: business contributions to the budget may amount to about 5% of profit growth for 2021-2022

The size of a one-time contribution of large companies to the Russian budget may be about 5% of the difference between the total profit of large companies for 2021-2022 and 2018-2019, reports Interfax with reference to sources familiar with the course of negotiations between the authorities and big business.

The interlocutor of the agency clarified that 2020 is not included in the calculations of the proposed formula due to the pandemic. Another Interfax source said that the parties are discussing a range of 4-5% of the company’s total additional profit before tax. At the same time, both interlocutors of the agency agree that the formula is preliminary and can be modified.

The head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Alexander Shokhin said “RIA News”that the contribution formula will be determined after the companies’ reports for 2022.

According to the preliminary estimate of the Ministry of Finance, in 2023 the Russian budget deficit should amount to 3 trillion rubles. According to the results of January, it already exceeded 1.5 trillion rubles.

Since the end of last year, the authorities have been discussing with businesses voluntary contributions to the budget from income for 2022. February 17 Finance Minister Anton Siluanov declaredthat the total amount of the payment could amount to 300 billion rubles. Office reportedthat the collection would be mandatory and not voluntary. The initiative will be implemented through tax amendments: “This participation will be in the form of fees from businesses from a part of the increase in financial results in recent years.” Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Sazanov informed February 22, that the procedure for calculating the mechanism for a one-time contribution of large companies to the Russian budget will be determined after the submission of their reports for 2022.
