And if medical assistance is suddenly required on public holidays, it is difficult to immediately find out: where to get it? Will hospitals and clinics be open? OMS experts provide clarifications on this matter.
Due to the fact that on New Year’s holidays people actively indulge in gluttony and often abuse alcohol, the beginning of January from year to year becomes a time of more frequent injuries, food poisoning; in addition, on these days, more often than on others, cardiovascular diseases can make themselves felt. How and where to get medical care these days?
It is curious that doctors and other medical workers, along with representatives of most other professions, also receive days off during the New Year holidays. However, as Aleksey Starchenko, a member of the Council of Public Organizations for the Protection of Patients’ Rights under Roszdravnadzor, explains, this does not mean that people will be left without medical care during the New Year holidays: services. They will help everyone who felt ill on New Year’s days.”
The composition of the duty teams is determined by the medical organizations themselves. And yet, it is useful to inquire in advance about the working conditions of the nearest medical institutions to you during the “long weekend” (you can find information about this on the websites of the regional ministries of health and on the websites of the medical organizations themselves).
As for polyclinics, during the holidays they will work according to the weekend schedule – from 9.00 to 16.00. Patients will be treated by an on-call therapist and a nurse. If necessary, you can call a therapist and at home. The task of the “weekend duty team” in the clinic is to provide urgent or emergency medical care. However, if the specialist understands that there is something serious with health that requires observation or further examinations, he will refer the patient for hospitalization in a hospital.
It is especially worth noting that narrow specialists will most likely not be accepted in polyclinics on holidays: it is better to plan visits to them after the holidays. In addition, on January 1 and 7, there will be an official day off in polyclinics, although the therapist is expected to be on duty on these days (until 16.00).
But the schedule of hospitals due to long holidays will not change much. Unless there will be planned hospitalizations (they can be transferred to weekdays). But emergency medical care will be provided as usual. In addition, on-call services will also be formed in stationary institutions for the holiday period.
If you are hospitalized before the New Year holidays, and your discharge is expected after them, then all doctor’s appointments, all procedures and medical manipulations that he prescribed for you, will be carried out in full. Well, no one will cancel planned rounds of doctors either.
“Inpatient medical care will be provided in full. You can apply for medical assistance to the hospital at any time: they work seven days a week and without breaks. So if health problems worsen during the holidays, then in the direction of the doctor on duty at the polyclinic or by “ambulance” assistance in the hospital will be provided to you immediately. Moreover, if your health condition requires special attention, then the attending physician in the hospital can always focus on this, giving appropriate instructions on the need for an examination by the doctor on duty. For example, if you have recently undergone any operation, and there is an early postoperative period. In hospitals, as a rule, observation logs are kept, where the attending physicians enter the names of such patients who require the attention of the doctor on duty for medical reasons, ”says Mikhail Pushkov, an expert in the field of compulsory medical insurance.
And who the New Year’s program will not affect at all is the ambulance. Brigade 03 will work as usual. And if we talk about emergency rooms, then they will have to work in the mode of constant combat readiness. In adult trauma centers, a round-the-clock schedule will be organized; children during the New Year holidays will work until 10 pm, however, if a child is injured at an inopportune time, he will be taken to an adult center.
For those who during the holidays will face acute toothache, on-duty medical organizations in the field of “dentistry” will be opened. According to the Program of State Guarantees of Free Medical Assistance, assistance in such dentistry must be provided within 2 hours from the moment of application. However, dentists in state clinics that do not provide emergency care will work according to the weekend schedule – that is, until 16.00.
