Indonesia proposes its peace plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine

Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto proposed the creation of a demilitarized zone in Ukraine and the deployment of UN peacekeepers in it. He presented his plan for a peaceful settlement of the conflict at the Shangri-La Dialogue security conference in Singapore, writes TASS.

Indonesia has offered both sides an immediate ceasefire and a 15 km retreat from current positions to each side to create a demilitarized zone. “The UN should organize and hold a referendum in the disputed territories in order to objectively confirm the will of the majority of the inhabitants,” he said. Subianto also said that the Indonesian authorities are ready to send their military to Ukraine to participate in the UN peacekeeping mission.

He noted that the proposed measures have already proven themselves in the situation on the Korean Peninsula, where “for 50 years we have at least some kind of peace.”

The Minister also urged not to lay responsibility on one of the parties to the conflict, since there are always two versions of what happened. He proposed adopting a declaration calling for a ceasefire. “I don’t know if the things I suggested can be accepted, but at least let’s try to present concrete recommendations,” Subianto concluded.

On February 24, 2023, China presented its plan to exit the Ukrainian conflict, which includes 12 points, including respect for the sovereignty of all countries, the cessation of hostilities, the start of peace negotiations, etc. Western countries and official Kyiv rejected this plan.

On May 16, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa proposed his plan for a peaceful settlement of the international conflict at a final press conference with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Ramaphosa announced that on the draft peace agreement, he had previously held telephone consultations with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian head of state Vladimir Putin.
