Indonesian Defense Minister Subianto proposed to create a demilitarized zone in Ukraine and hold a referendum
At the annual forum in Singapore on regional security in the Asia-Pacific region, Indonesian Defense Minister General Prabowo Subianto proposed the creation of a demilitarized zone in Ukraine to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
In his speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue summit, the minister urged the forum participants to sign a joint appeal to Russia and Ukraine containing this proposal. He also proposed some of the points of his peace plan, including a complete ceasefire and hostilities, a withdrawal of troops 15 kilometers to each side of the forward positions, and the establishment of a UN observation force.
The UN contingent, according to the general, should be deployed throughout the demilitarized zone. And of course, according to Subianto, it is necessary to hold referendums in all disputed territories in order to guarantee an objective reflection of the desires of the population of these territories to be part of the Russian Federation or Ukraine.
The minister substantiated his proposal by saying that the conflict in Ukraine has an impact on all regions of the world, including the Indo-Pacific (Asia-Pacific) region.
