Indian Prime Minister Modi at the G7 summit in Hiroshima called for UN reform

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for UN reform at the G7 meeting, reports The Economic Times. According to Modi, the international organization does not reflect the current realities of the world.

“Why is the UN, which was created to preserve peace, unable to prevent conflicts?” the prime minister asked. He resolutely advocated the reform of the international organization and stated that if the UN and the Security Council do not reflect the realities of the modern world and do not hear the voice of the “Global South”, then they will remain a “talking shop”.

The institutions created in the last century do not correspond to the system of the 21st century, he noted.

India, along with Brazil, South Africa, Germany and Japan, is considering the possibility of obtaining a permanent residence permit in the UN Security Council.

Now the UN Security Council consists of five permanent members – the Russian Federation, Great Britain, China, France and the United States.
