Indian lunar rover for the first time drove on the surface of the moon – Kommersant

India’s Pragyan lunar rover has made its first trip to the Moon, the Indian Space Research Organization said. The Indian lunar rover will study the rocks in the satellite’s craters, as well as search for water.

“The rover of the Chandrayaan-3 mission has left the lander and India has walked on the Moon,” the agency said on its X (formerly Twitter) page.

The Lunokhod reached the Earth satellite on August 23 aboard the lander of the Chandrayaan-3 station. India has become the first country to make a soft landing at the Moon’s South Pole. While trying to land in this area on August 20, the Russian station Luna-25 crashed.

A few weeks before the crash of the Luna-25 station, NASA head Bill Nelson declaredthat only the United States and China are participating in the modern space race. In his opinion, Russia will not soon be able to land astronauts on the moon, which means that it does not participate in the race.
