India launches Aditya-L1 satellite into orbit to study the Sun – Kommersant

The Indian satellite Aditya-L1 for studying the Sun has successfully entered orbit. This was reported by the Indian Space Research Organization.

“The launch of the Aditya-L1 station using the PSLV-C57 rocket has been completed successfully. The rocket brought the satellite exactly into the desired orbit. India’s first solar observatory has begun its journey to its destination, Sun-Earth L1,” the organization’s press office said on X (formerly Twitter).

Aditya-L1 is India’s first solar observation mission. Within four months, the satellite must reach a halo orbit at a point where the forces of the gravitational attraction of the Earth and the Sun are equal. From there, the station will be able to observe the Sun without the influence of eclipses.

The Aditya-L1 has seven instruments for observing the photosphere, chromosphere and the outermost layers of the Sun using electromagnetic field, particle and magnetic field detectors. Upon reaching a given observation point, the satellite will be able to send up to 1444 images per day to Earth.

The mission is to collect information that will allow scientists to work on the problems of solar corona heating, coronal mass ejection, pre-flare activity and its characteristics, space weather dynamics, solar wind propagation, particles and fields, and others.

On August 23, the module of the Indian station “Chandrayan-3” successfully landed on the surface of the Moon. The next day, August 24, the Pragyan rover passed over the surface of the moon. India became the first country to make a soft landing at the south pole of the moon. In this regard, on August 23 was announced India’s National Space Day.
