The Ministry of Education claims that increasing the number of hours spent studying history in schools by 1.4 times will not lead to an increase in the workload on schoolchildren. The increase will occur due to the abolition of social studies from 6th to 8th grade.

“Due to these changes, teachers will be able to model their lessons more interesting and richer for students, expanding their knowledge of the connection between history and their native land, history and culture. We emphasize that the workload on schoolchildren will not increase,” the ministry’s press service told reporters (quoted from RIA Novosti).

The Ministry of Education believes that reducing the volume of social studies teaching from 136 to 34 hours will not lead to difficulties in passing the OGE. The exam will be adapted to the updated course “by integrating the content of the educational subject “Fundamentals of the Spiritual and Moral Culture of the Peoples of Russia” into the educational course “History of Our Region”.”

Total number of hours for studying history in schools plan to increase from 340 to 476. Teaching in grades 5-8 is expected to increase from two to three hours per week. In the 9th grade, the department wants to allocate two hours a week to history.
