Zaporozhye NPP can be restarted after the line of contact moves to a safe distance, declared representative of the Russian military-civilian administration (VGA) of the region Vladimir Rogov in a comment to TASS.

“We hope that we will be able to restart after the line of contact is moved back and the power line is repaired,” he said. The station can be launched in a matter of hours, but a more “soft” launch will take several days, Rogov added.

On the night of September 11 at the ZNPP was stopped the last working power unit, its transfer to a cold state began. The shutdown of the reactor will not completely remove the threat of a nuclear catastrophe against the backdrop of ongoing shelling, the head of the Rosenergoatom concern, Renat Karchaa, said earlier.

Later the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP discussed by phone, Russian President Vladimir Putin and French leader Emmanuel Macron. Putin briefed his French counterpart on the measures taken by Russian specialists to ensure the physical protection of the station and stressed the need to influence the Kyiv authorities so that the shelling of the station would immediately stop.

Yesterday also Director General of the International Nuclear Safety Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi declared on the start of consultations on the creation of a nuclear safety zone around the ZNPP.

During a special military operation in Ukraine, the Russian military took control of part of the Zaporozhye region, including Energodar, where the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the ZNPP, is located. The IAEA mission arrived at the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP on September 1 due to regular shelling from Ukraine.

On September 6, the IAEA published a report on the results of its mission to the ZNPP. The organization called for an end to attacks on the station and the establishment of a safe zone around it. At the same time, experts did not specify who was shelling the object. The report also says that several events have been recorded at the ZNPP since the spring that violate the principles of nuclear safety, and that members of the delegation themselves witnessed the shelling.
