The number of detained protesters in Yerevan has reached 168 people. About it reported Interfax with reference to the Armenian police.

“As of 12:00 (11:00 Moscow time – Vedomosti), 168 people were detained,” law enforcement agencies said.

The publication noted that opposition member of the Armenian Parliament Tadevos Avetsyan may be among the detainees.

His colleague in parliament and member of the opposition National Committee, Ishkhan Saghatelyan, noted on the social network X (formerly Twitter) that the total number of detainees exceeds 200 people. According to him, lawyers and parliamentarians are working to protect the rights of demonstrators.

Protests began in Yerevan on September 19 after Azerbaijan announced a “military operation” in Nagorno-Karabakh to “restore the constitutional order.” Initially, demonstrators gathered near the government building of the republic and the Russian embassy. The main demand was the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

On September 21, the media wrote that Pashinyan refused to leave his post and told fellow party members in the “Civil Agreement” that he would retain his power.

By September 22, it became known that 100 protesters were detained on the territory of the republic. Among them turned out to be the son of former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan Levon, as well as the youngest son of the co-owner of the Yerevan Plaza shopping center Gennady Stepanyan Shagor. September 23, number of demonstrators detained in Yerevan amounted to about 20 people.
