On the outbreak of meningitis among employees of the Ozon distribution center on the territory of the Koltsovsky logopark in Yekaterinburg informed Rospotrebnadzor. “In the course of the epidemiological investigation, the boundaries of the outbreaks were determined at the places of residence and work of infected citizens. Contact persons have been established,” the message says. Rospotrebnadzor added that a set of sanitary and anti-epidemic measures was organized, including the vaccination of employees. “About 500 people have been vaccinated so far,” the ministry said.
Meningococcal disease is an acute infectious disease that causes inflammation of the pia mater of the brain. It is spread by airborne droplets in respiratory and throat secretions. Meningitis can be caused by many organisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.
Rospotrebnadzor hastened to assure that the infection cannot be contracted through parcels that were sent from the distribution center, and explained that the infectious agent remains viable only for a short time.
The press service of Ozon told Kommersant that all the sick are employees of contractors, they are hospitalized and receive the necessary assistance. “Information about the state of their health is reported to their relatives, there is no mass sick leave,” Ozon emphasized. A mask regime has been introduced at the warehouse, regular medical examinations are carried out, employees with signs of a cold are not allowed to work.

According to Alexander Shulga, senior assistant to the head of the ICR for the Sverdlovsk region, the investigating authorities received information about the death of two people as a result of an outbreak of meningococcal infection among employees of the distribution center. This fact is under investigation. “As part of the verification activities, all the circumstances of the situation that has arisen, the exact causes of death of two citizens, as well as other necessary data will be established in order to give an objective legal assessment of the situation,” Alexander Shulga promised.
