In what directions is sports developing in the Novgorod region

In 2023, 317 sports competitions are planned to be held on the territory of Novgorodskaya, including 25 all-Russian and 28 interregional competitions. “MK in Veliky Novgorod” tells in what directions the sports sphere of the region is developing and what is being done for this.

The development of sports in the Novgorod region is aimed at four sectors: mass sports, elite sports, sports reserve and infrastructure. This was announced by the Minister of Sports Kristina Mikhailova during the government hour in the regional Duma.

The main mass sporting event is the passing of the TRP standards. 100 thousand people have already tried their hand. There are 19 TRP sites in the region. In the ranking of the implementation of the All-Russian sports complex, the Novgorod region is located on the 21st place.

In terms of elite sports, the region also has something to boast of. In 2023, the region will hold the main competitions in Russia in sports acrobatics, rowing slalom and darts. In addition, Borovichi will host the All-Russian Sambo Tournament and the Vladislav Tretiak Cup in hockey.

The formation of the sports reserve of the Novgorod region is carried out by 23 organizations, in total educating more than nine thousand athletes. Their representatives interact with the All-Russian sports federations and contribute to the inclusion of athletes from the region in the Russian national teams.

So, last year, 91 athletes represented the Novgorod region at the federal level. In 2023, in rowing alone, membership in the national teams of 17 athletes from the region was approved.

The sports infrastructure of the region continues to be gradually updated, new facilities appear. In 2022, a regional center for hockey and figure skating was opened, and a sports and recreation complex began to operate in Veliky Novgorod.

The launch of another sports complex in Soltsy is scheduled for February. Also, by the end of March, workers will repair the pools for rowing.
