Ministry of Internal Affairs of Poland: Wagner fighters tried to enter Polish territory from Belarus

Fighters of the Wagner group, which is now based in Belarus, tried to penetrate the territory of Poland, Pavel Yablonsky, deputy head of the Polish Interior Ministry, told CNN.

According to him, Warsaw is considering various response measures, including the complete closure of the border.

Yablonsky told the TV channel that “the threat from Belarus is quite real”: new attempts are expected to violate the Polish border, and possibly the airspace. He also said that the Polish authorities are sending “more and more” troops to the border area. How many forces it is planned to deploy there, he did not specify.

Yablonsky also noted that Warsaw is considering “any steps that will be necessary to protect .. territory … citizens, including the complete isolation of Belarus” and “complete closure of the border.”

At the end of July, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced the transfer of more than 100 fighters of the Wagner group to the Polish border from Belarus.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko refuted this statement, saying: “No detachments of the PMC” Wagner “in a hundred people moved here.” At the same time, Lukashenka added that if they moved, “then only to transfer combat experience to the brigades that are concentrated in Brest and Grodno.”

On July 20, Minsk reported that the armed forces of Belarus and Wagner were jointly working out tasks at the Brestsky training ground. The city of Brest is located directly on the border with Poland, which runs along the Bug River.
