Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba criticized the decision of the British Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) to allow tennis players from Russia and Belarus to play at the Wimbledon tournaments in a neutral status.
He called this decision “immoral” and recalled that the special operation in Ukraine is still ongoing. He also accused the organizers of the tournament of wanting “to meet the needs of Russia and Belarus”, and called on the British authorities to refuse to issue visas to Russians and Belarusians.
Vice-President of the Tennis Federation of Ukraine Yevgeny Zukin said that in Ukraine they regret this decision of the LTA, but noted that the main “problem” is that no one supported the British.
“The biggest problem is not Wimbledon and the LTA. The biggest problem is that the rest of the Grand Slams and the rest of the world did not support,” he said.
Earlier it became known that in order to participate in tournaments under its auspices, the LTA would require Russians and Belarusians to sign a declaration of neutrality.
