Stefanyshina: the decision on Ukraine’s NATO membership will be made overnight
Ukraine’s accession to the European Union has already become a reality, while membership in the North Atlantic Alliance is not yet available. Olga Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of the Republic, spoke about this in an interview with Ukrainskaya Pravda.
“Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is a decision already made. You can check the box here. As far as NATO is concerned, this is not yet a reality,” the publication’s interlocutor shared the details. According to her, all 30 member countries of the Western military-political bloc have already made a conscious strategic decision to join the former Soviet republic. At the same time, Stefanishina could not say when exactly this would happen.
She noted that members of the organization are already thinking about what contribution Ukraine can make to the collective security of the North Atlantic Alliance. In addition, referring to statements by colleagues from the United States, the Deputy Prime Minister indicated that the decision to admit the republic to NATO “will be made overnight,” and by then Kiev will be ready.
Ukraine will have enough time to prepare for joining the EU in two years, she concluded.
