The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine announced the beginning of the formation of assault brigades, whose task is to seize the territories of the DPR, LPR and Crimea. Acting head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Igor Klymenko said that the project was called the Offensive Guard.

The project will unite eight divisions: “Azov” (the organization is recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia), “Kara-Dag”, “Krasnaya Kalina”, “Frontier”, “Spartan”, “Hurricane” and two new ones. The basis of the units, as stated, will be active and former military, border guards and police officers with significant combat experience. Additional staffing will be carried out at the expense of volunteers.

Previously it was reported that DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions entered the zone of responsibility of the Southern Military District of Russia. On September 30, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed agreements on the entry of four regions into the Russian Federation. Prior to that, they held referendums.

Crimea became part of Russia following a referendum in 2014.
