In Ukraine, the monument to the “father” of the Airborne Forces Vasily Margelov will be removed

The authorities of the Ukrainian city of Dnipro (formerly Dnepropetrovsk) are planning to dismantle the monument to Vasily Margelov, the founder of the Soviet airborne troops. Mayor Boris Filatov announced this.
According to him, the monument will be offered to be taken away by the Dnieper paratroopers, on whose initiative it was erected in 2000.
The monument, created with the money of citizens and sponsors, was installed on the embankment of the Dnieper that year.
Margelov – a native of the city, the first commander of the Airborne Forces in the USSR, in whose honor this branch of the military was called “Uncle Vasya’s troops.”
