Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina complained about the unwillingness of the ATP and WTA tennis organizations to disqualify athletes from Russia and Belarus.
According to her, Ukrainians do not understand such a decision.
“Wimbledon came under pressure from these two bodies and was eventually forced to surrender – it’s sad,” she said. Svitolina also added that she has no relationship with athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus.
Earlier, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) announced the admission of Russian and Belarusian tennis players to participate in the 2023 Wimbledon tournament in a neutral status. Wimbledon organizers said in a statement that tennis players from Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to express support for the CBO at the tournament. In addition, they will not allow players who receive public funding, including sponsorship from companies under the control or control of the authorities.
Russian tennis players are performing very successfully this year. Daniil Medvedev won 4 tournaments, and on Sunday Andrey Rublev became the winner of the tournament in Monte Carlo.
