In Ukraine, announced the imminent start of negotiations with the United States on security guarantees

Negotiations between the United States and Ukraine on the issue of providing security guarantees for the latter will begin next week, Andriy Yermak, head of the office of the Ukrainian president, said in his Telegram channel.

“Ukraine will begin negotiations with the United States on a bilateral agreement on the provision of security guarantees as early as next week,” he wrote.

Yermak argues that such guarantees will remain in place until Ukraine becomes a member of NATO. According to him, the United States can guarantee that it will continue to provide the country with military and financial support, as well as continue to impose new sanctions.

In July, during the summit in Vilnius, NATO member countries agreed on the conditions for Ukraine’s entry into NATO. Kyiv will be sent an invitation to join after all the conditions are met and the unanimous consent of all members of the bloc is reached. Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg then said that he proposed to cancel for Ukraine the requirements for an action plan for membership (MAP) in NATO – a list of political, economic and military requirements that must be met by candidates for the organization since 1999. For Kiev, “formal” conditions will be softened to join the alliance, which will allow him to shorten the process of joining. At the same time, there were no clear dates for Ukraine’s entry into NATO. At the same time, the Secretary General had previously stated that Ukraine could not be accepted into the alliance until the end of the conflict.

In addition, after the summit, the G7 adopted a declaration on long-term security guarantees for Ukraine, which includes the supply of weapons.

In the Kremlin, similar guarantees called an attack on Russia’s security. “We consider this extremely erroneous and potentially very dangerous, because by providing any security guarantees to Ukraine, these countries are actually ignoring the international principle of the indivisibility of security. That is, by providing security guarantees to Ukraine, they encroach on the security of the Russian Federation,” said Dmitry Peskov, the presidential press secretary.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier that NATO countries are actually fighting on the side of Ukraine, there is nowhere to get deeper into the conflict. Russian President Vladimir Putin back in September 2022 said that the Russian army in Ukraine was opposed to “virtually the entire military machine of the collective West.”
