In Ukraine, a shortage of milk began due to mass slaughter of livestock

The head of the Ukrainian agricultural company Kolos, Leonid Tsentilo, in an interview with the publication Strana.ua, said that Ukrainians are faced with a shortage of milk due to the massive slaughter of livestock.

According to Tsentilo, a real milk crisis is brewing in Ukraine. He emphasized that the country is already experiencing a shortage of milk, and prices for this product have gone up. The publication’s interlocutor indicated that at the moment, the demand for milk significantly exceeds supply, and the reason for this is the massive slaughter of livestock.

Tsentilo noted that “the statistics are terrible,” and during the fighting in Ukraine, almost a third of the livestock went under the knife. He gave the example that during a recent visit to one of the regions in the west of the country, the pastures were empty, although in this region the local landscapes have always been complemented by herds of cows. As the head of the agricultural company noted, a similar situation occurs in the north of the country and in most Ukrainian regions, where private yards and small farmers slaughter cows en masse.

The corresponding trend, according to Tsentilo, is due to uncertainty about the future and the desire to get “at least some money” by giving livestock for slaughter. He added that many Ukrainians go to work in Europe, but there is no one to care for the livestock.
