Four out of five cases of anthrax in Tuva voluntarily left the hospital where they were being treated, informed regional ministry of health. They clarified that the condition of all five people is satisfactory, but in accordance with sanitary standards, they can be discharged only after the skin manifestations of the disease have completely healed.
“The transmission of infection from person to person is extremely rare, but possible, especially if the patient has not completely healed skin ulcerative manifestations,” the department explained. The fact of refusal of treatment was urgently reported to the republican department of Rospotrebnadzor.
The first case of anthrax infection in the republic was identified 30 June. The diagnosis was made to a 24-year-old man after he stayed with a friend at a shepherd’s camp in the town of Dag-Arty. There they butchered, and then ate the meat of a horse, which had cramps and swelling of the inguinal region the day before. Fifth case revealed July 6th Rospotrebnadzor ruled out the possibility of an anthrax epidemic.
