In the Trans-Baikal Territory, as of July 10, the number of local residents who were poisoned by bear meat increased to 23, including four minors. How informs Department of Rospotrebnadzor for the region, all of them were diagnosed with trichinosis, 16 cases have already been confirmed by laboratory.
“We also received positive results of a study on trichinosis of the remains of bear meat (raw and dried), seized from the sick. The main task of the department is now to identify all the people who have eaten this meat. We urge the population not to hide the fact of eating meat and seek help from medical institutions,” the message says.
As clarified in a conversation with Kommersant in the regional Ministry of Health, today, July 10, three residents of the village of Kuanda were transported by helicopter to Chita, to the regional infectious diseases hospital, “one of them is in serious condition, the rest are of moderate severity.” On July 7, 11 people were taken to the hospital, whose condition is assessed as “stable”.
About mass poisoning with bear meat became known July 3, when people from a remote Trans-Baikal village who felt unwell began to seek medical help. All of them ate bear meat in early June. Among the victims are people living in the villages of Kuanda and Novaya Chara.
