Rostov became the venue for the eighth Spartakiad of Russian Pensioners.
This year eight teams competed at the Spartak stadium. The sports competition program was very extensive: athletes had to show their skills in table tennis, track and field races, darts, swimming and medley relay.
Deputy Chairman of the regional government Vera Dargel noted that despite the fact that people over 55 years old took part in the competition, young people can envy their activity. The government’s task is to maintain a culture of active longevity. In the Yaroslavl region, circles and creative associations work for residents of the “silver” age; tours and courses of various types are regularly organized.
According to the results of the Spartakiad, the team from the regional center, which included residents of two districts – Krasnoperekopsky and Frunzensky, became the best. Rostov athletes took the second step of the podium, and Nekouz athletes took the third. The winners will compete in St. Petersburg, which starts on September 27.
