In the UK, veterinarians have cured two-year-old Labrador Koko, who suffered from alcoholism, reports the Telegraph newspaper.
After the death of the owner, Koko, along with another dog, ended up in a shelter for stray dogs. As it turned out, because of the lifestyle of the owner, the animals became addicted to alcohol.
The dogs soon needed veterinary care as they were having seizures. Experts found out that this is due to withdrawal symptoms. Shelter employees told the publication that the dogs became addicted to alcohol because their owner left alcohol on the table.
Koko was saved, but he had to spend about four weeks under anesthesia. This helped the dog get rid of convulsions. The second dog died.
Koko’s condition is improving, but so far, according to the workers of the shelter, he is not ready to live in another family, as he cannot get rid of anxiety.
