The Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine for the Sumy region reported on its website that in the morning law enforcement officers received a message that someone had torn flags from the graves of Ukrainian Armed Forces military personnel on the Walk of Fame of the Central Cemetery.
The police who arrived at the scene found that an unknown person had torn off and damaged flags from several military burial sites at once.
With the help of CCTV cameras, a 43-year-old local resident was identified, who was soon detained. Flags were also found that were torn off and hidden by the attacker. The detainee refused to explain his actions to law enforcement officers.
For desecration of burial places, a man, according to Ukrainian law, faces restriction of freedom for a term of three to five years or imprisonment for the same term.
