Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children Tatyana Butskaya said “Izvestia”that a number of parliament members propose to limit maternity capital for the first-born child to the age of the mother – up to 25-30 years, or to focus on payments for the second child.
According to the publication, the government, in response to a request from deputies, recalled that the maternity capital program is valid until 2026. The Cabinet of Ministers emphasized that when making a decision on the program, it is advisable, in particular, to comprehensively review approaches to the implementation of the provision of maternal capital. The government also noted that it is important to also take into account demographic challenges and the effect obtained from the program.
From February 1, 2023, maternity capital in Russia was indexed by 11.9%. Now the amount of payment for the first and second child is 587 thousand and 775.6 thousand rubles. respectively. According to the law, maternity capital can be spent on improving living conditions, a child’s education, and also on paying for social rehabilitation for children with disabilities.
