In the Moscow region, the number of complaints about tick bites has increased significantly

Ticks are especially active this year. Since the beginning of the season, which began earlier than usual in 2023, about 600 people have turned to doctors in the Moscow region alone due to tick bites.

“As of April 20, medical organizations in the Moscow Region registered 596 requests for medical assistance regarding cases of tick bites, including 187 among children. For the same period in 2022, 83 cases of suction were registered, including 31 among children,” the press service of the local department of Rospotrebnadzor said.

The Moscow Office of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor), in turn, recently reported that residents of the capital are turning to doctors about tick bites, which in most cases occurred in the Moscow region. According to the results of studies of about 200 ticks taken from people after a bite, the causative agent of borreliosis was found in three individuals.

The danger of a tick bite in the green areas of the capital is low. Indeed, in Moscow, preventive acaricidal treatment of park and forest park areas is regularly carried out. So, this year, about 7.6 hectares were treated for ticks in parks and forest parks. This is more than two times more than last year.

Experts recommend summer residents and outdoor enthusiasts to use repellents and follow other expert advice.

In addition, you need to provide protection against tick bites for your pets. According to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Moscow Region, more than 400 people have already turned to the specialists of the State Veterinary Service of the Moscow Region with their pets, having found ticks attached to them. At the same time, piroplasmosis was confirmed in almost 20% of cases in dogs and cats – a disease that can be fatal for an animal.

Veterinarians advise combining several types of treatments for prevention: special drops, collars and tablets. And if you notice a tick on an animal, seek veterinary help.
