A resident of the Krasnoyarsk Territory “brought” West Nile fever from Thailand, which she was diagnosed with upon returning to Russia, TASS reports.
For the region, this is the first case of the disease in 2023, Dmitry Goryaev, head of the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor, said in a telegram channel.
As Goryachev noted, natural foci of this disease “are also available in some regions of Russia, but the Krasnoyarsk Territory does not belong to them.”
He explained that after returning, the resident of the region “turned to the doctor with complaints of body temperature of 37.5 degrees and slight pain in the cervical region.” In addition, “the tourist reported that she was bitten by mosquitoes during the rest period.”
A blood test of the woman made it possible to establish her final diagnosis – West Nile fever.
An acute viral disease is caused by a virus of the same name, which is carried by mosquitoes, ixodid and argas ticks. The infection is mainly transmitted to humans through mosquito bites. Most of the sick people do not show symptoms of fever, some develop a febrile illness.
The severe form of this disease rarely develops.
