Residents of the Kherson region will be able to vote in the elections to the local legislative assembly, including with a Ukrainian passport issued before September 30, 2022. This was announced by the head of the regional election committee Marina Zakharova, transmits “RIA News”.

“In addition to those documents that are approved by the 67th law of the Russian Federation (this is a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation or a document replacing it), the following documents will be indicated: a passport of Ukraine in a traditional paper form, an ID-passport with an attachment, an ID-passport without an attachment, as well as another another document issued by the authorized body before September 30, 2022 and by the authorized body of the Russian Federation after September 30, 2022,” she specified.

You can also vote with your driver’s license. Zakharova explained that such a decision was made in connection with the “difficult situation” in which the residents of the Kherson region are. Their documents may be lost or destroyed “for one reason or another,” she added.

Zakharova noted that if there is no registration mark in the document, then any other document confirming the fact of registration in the region, including an address certificate, a house book, etc., can be attached to it. Residents of the region with temporary registration, if it was received three months before the start of the elections, that is, no later than June 8, 2023.

This year, the unified voting day in Russia will take place on September 10. Elections from September 8 to 10 will also be held in new regions – the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. Residents will elect deputies to local legislative assemblies, which will then hold a vote to elect the heads of subjects.

The new territories became part of the Russian Federation following the results of referendums on September 30, 2022. Since October of the same year, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, martial law has been introduced in the regions.

At the end of May, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that excludes the ban on holding referendums and elections to government bodies in those regions where martial law is in effect. According to the adopted document, the head of such a subject can send an application to the CEC for the purpose of holding elections or a referendum. The CEC is obliged to consider the application within five days and consult with the FSB and the Ministry of Defense.
