In the Kaliningrad region, fines of up to 50 thousand rubles were introduced. for inducing abortion

The Legislative Assembly of the Kaliningrad Region adopted a law providing for the introduction of fines in the amount of 3 thousand to 50 thousand rubles. for inducing women to have an abortion.

In the press service of the regional parliament TASS reported that the document will come into force after its official publication; the introduction of such fines at the regional level does not require any additional approvals.

The initiator of the law was the regional children’s ombudsman Irina Tkachenko. Her proposal was supported by the Kaliningrad Legislative Assembly Committee on Social Policy.

According to the law, inducing a woman to have an artificial abortion “is a threat to the family, paternity, motherhood and childhood.” Inducement to abortion is defined as “actions involving persuasion and deception.”

At the same time, the document adopted by Kaliningrad parliamentarians contains reservation that advice from doctors about terminating a pregnancy will not be considered inducement.

During the discussion of the law, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Andrei Kropotkin said that in practice there are many cases when an employer offers a pregnant woman money to have an abortion and continue working. At the same time, he explained that ultimately the decision is made by the woman, and the law is aimed “at a clean information field.”

Previously, laws banning inducing women to have an abortion were passed by the parliaments of Mordovia and the Tver regions. The head of the Komi Republic, Vladimir Uyba, also suggested that local deputies discuss the possibility of such a ban.
