According to the results of the first quarter of 2023, annual inflation in Russia dropped below 4%, said Alexei Zabotkin, Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia. According to him, in May, the indicator may begin to grow and reach 5-7% by the end of the year.
“As we expected in our February forecast, inflation was below 4% at the end of the first quarter. We believe that after the very low values of May-June inflation begin to come out of the calculation, the annual inflation rate will increase, and our forecast for this year remains at the level of 5-7%,” Alexei Zabotkin told reporters (quoted from TASS).
For the week from March 21 to March 27, inflation was 0.05%, reported in Rosstat. Over the same period, annual inflation slowed to 4.3%. The Central Bank expects that by the end of 2023 inflation in Russia will be reduced up to 5–7%.
