A record number of ascents was recorded on August 6 on the cable car of the Elbrus resort: 4837 unique passes. Almost five thousand guests. The record was facilitated by the fact that on that day, at the foot of the highest peak in Europe, the final of the Alpindustria Elbrus Race, as well as an amateur race, took place.
During the three days of the festival, the Kabardino-Balkarian mountain resort received about two thousand athletes from all over Russia and abroad. In addition, couples and whole families came to visit the event. Geography – from Kaliningrad to the Far East.
Meanwhile, Elbrus hosts the Alpindustria Elbrus Race festival for the 11th time. This is a recognizable and bright event for fans of such festivals. This year it brought together about 2,100 athletes from Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus. Participants overcame 7 distances with a total length of 360 kilometers, including the largest – 135 kilometers around Elbrus.
The most massive race took place on the second day of the competition. This is an amateur distance of 6.5 km from the Azau Polyana to the Garabashi station, 346 people ran it.
“Over the past weekend, we received a record number of visitors, judging not only by the unique passes through the accounting system, but also by the demand for rentals, hotels and transfers,” said Khisa Bekkaev, President of the KBR Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding Federation. – For the republic it means great popularity and good profit. Therefore, I am convinced that such sports holidays develop Elbrus as a high-altitude base and a point of attraction for guests not only in winter, but also in summer.”
Khisa Bekkaev also said that already in October, Elbrus is preparing to host annual training sessions for snowboarders and skiers on the glacier, and the Russian Alpine Skiing Championship is scheduled for February 2024. Mountaineering events are also planned for the next sports season, as well as competitions of regional and national teams of the country in winter sports.
