In the Czech Republic, the acquittal of the Russian citizen Franchetti was canceled

The Supreme Court of Appeal in Prague overturned the acquittal of Russian Alexander Franchetti, whom the Ukrainian authorities accused of violating the country’s sovereignty. About it informs TV channel CT24.

The case will be transferred to the Prague City Court for a new trial, the publication clarifies.

Franchetti was detained in the Czech Republic in September 2021. In 2022, Ukraine demanded the extradition of the Russian, but the Czech Supreme Court refused“because against the backdrop of the ongoing military conflict there, there is a real risk of violations of his human rights.”

In October 2022, it became knownthat the court acquitted Franchetti due to the understatement of his guilt in the crimes he was accused of. Press Secretary of the Russian Embassy Nikolai Bryakin told TASS that the court’s decision will be appealed by the prosecution.

The Ukrainian authorities accused Franchetti of violating the sovereignty of the country, it was associated with the annexation of Crimea to Russia. The head of the working group on international legal issues at the Permanent Mission of Crimea under the President of Russia, Alexander Molokhov, said that the Russian was one of the participants in the “Crimean Spring”, as a result of which Crimea became part of Russia in 2014. According to the latest TASS data, Franchetti returned to Russia.
