As part of the criminal case against the former coordinator of Navalny’s Ufa headquarters (the Navalny Headquarters organization was recognized as extremist and banned in Russia, liquidated), Lilia Chanysheva, the former editor-in-chief of Kommersant-Ufa, Natalya Pavlova, was interrogated. She testified as a defense witness. The case is being heard in the Kirovsky District Court of Ufa by Judge Azamat Bikchurin.

Ms. Pavlova, in particular, explained to the court that the activities of Lilia Chanysheva were useful for society: we are talking, among other things, about anti-corruption investigations and appeals to authorities with information about violations of the law. So, in December 2020, the republican OFAS, having considered the application of Lilia Chanysheva, obliged the Clearlight Rus company to return 115 million rubles to the federal budget. The commission of the antimonopoly department then established that the festive structures were delivered from Belarus through three intermediaries, as a result of which their cost exceeded the manufacturer’s price by 80%.

“I also told the court that we mentioned Lilia Chanysheva when she spoke at public hearings on the draft budgets of Ufa and the republic in the city council and the Kurultai. Lilia prepared voluminous analytical reports on which items of the budget are being reduced and which items are growing. She drew the attention of deputies to the reasons for such dynamics,” added Natalya Pavlova.

At the trial, Ms. Pavlova also said that she had not heard any extremist or other illegal statements from the defendant.

Lilia Chanysheva is accused of organizing an extremist community (part 3 of article 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and an NPO infringing on the personality and rights of citizens (part 3 of article 239 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), as well as of inciting extremism (part 1 of article 280 Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). She does not admit guilt.
