In the British Parliament, the Russian military was accused of ecocide in Ukraine

Member of the British House of Lords Natalie Bennet said that the Russian Federation is allegedly involved in ecocide (mass destruction of flora and fauna, poisoning of the atmosphere, water resources) in Ukraine. With a request from a parliamentarian to the British government containing the relevant thesis, got acquainted with RT.

In her address, Bennet, who represents the Green Party of England and Wales in the House, asked what kind of support London provides to Kyiv in this matter. It is about collecting evidence for a possible prosecution “for ecocide by the Russian armed forces.”

Her colleague in the upper chamber, the representative of the Conservative Party Tariq Ahmad answered her. The situation in Ukraine, in his opinion, has “serious environmental consequences.” These include soil, air and water pollution, as well as the threat to critical infrastructure.

“We support international partners and organizations that collect evidence of the environmental consequences of Russia’s actions in Ukraine,” the parliamentarian said about the joint interest. “We are also closely cooperating with the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine.”

The issue of “countering ecocide” is also raised by the Kyiv authorities from time to time. This item, in particular, was included in the so-called “peace formula” voiced by President Zelensky during his speech at the G20 summit in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, in the summer of 2021, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case under Art. 358 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Ecocide”) in connection with the blocking of the North Crimean Canal in 2014. Due to the actions of Ukrainian radicals, water from the Dnieper was not supplied to Crimea for almost 8 years.

It has also been repeatedly stated, including by the authorities of the DPR, that Kyiv deliberately destroys the ecology of Donbass and Crimea, but always blames others for this.
